Jared D. Carnes, 28

September 28, 2023

Jared D. Carnes, 28, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023 unexpectedly at his residence.

Born in Ephrata, he was the son of Douglas W. and Denise R. (Curll) Carnes. Jared was a graduate of Penn State Berks, where he earned a Bachelor of Science and Business degree. He had a desire for knowledge, and he embraced every opportunity to expand his understanding of the world. Jared had a deep love for cars and the outdoors. One of his favorite pastimes was enjoying Middle Creek and Raystown, where he felt most at peace. What truly set Jared apart was his personable nature. He had a natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His warm smile and kind-hearted spirit made him a friend to many. Jared had an adventurous soul; he would try anything once. Jared enjoyed cooking authentic dishes, and got his love for hot sauce and all things spicy from his dad. He also had a deep love for dogs. His childhood dog, Riley, was his very best friend growing up. Jared is survived by his parents, Denise and Douglas Carnes; his sister, Kayla (Ben) Weaver; nieces, Gemma and Elyse Weaver; his maternal grandparents, Dennis and Bonnie Curll; and his girlfriend of over 10 years, Jenna Strauss.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clara and William Carnes.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 10th at Woodcrest Retreat in their Indian Rock Center beginning at 6pm.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

May Jared’s adventurous spirit and kindness inspire us all to live our lives to the fullest, just as he did.

Jared was our nextdoor neighbor. We watched as he transformed his front yard into a little showcase with flowering bushes. He said more than once how much he loved planting things. It’s so hard to accept that he won’t be outside working around the yard anymore. We hurt for you, Jenna, and for Jarod’s parents and sister, for his grandparents and everybody who loved him. We won’t forget him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Jared’s family and everyone who knew him. Jared was one of my best friends and I am completely devastated by the news. I have so many good memories with Jared growing up. We worked together at Refreshing Mountain Camp, would swim 24/7 when we weren’t working, and biked all over Middle Creek. I remember sitting with him at lunch in high school everyday and hanging out at each other’s houses. Jared was an amazing person who made a difference in so many lives. He will always live in our hearts. Rest in peace friend. -Will Hauser

I am deeply saddened by the death and loss of Jared.  I remember him well from his trumpet lessons with me in elementary school.  He was always a fun, upbeat personality that could brighten anyone’s day.  I talked with him many years later at the Ephrata Rec Center, and he was the same enthusiastic young man as his younger days.
My condolences go out to his friends and family.

Jared was like a brother to me, and one of my closest friends. His infectious personality could put anyone to ease, and there was never an uncomfortable silence around him.  We shared so many nights full of laughter; memories I will always treasure. I will miss his bear hugs the most.
