Michele, I will always remember our time together at Lift-All and Harrington. You were a great co-worker to us all but an even better friend. I will surely miss you but you will be forever in our hearts.

As I came into Lift-All one day, some 15+ years ago, I passed the normal group of folks standing outside the door on break. There was one new-hire that I hadn’t noticed before. She followed me inside, and I held the door for her. Her smile just absolutely blew me away.
I looked forward to that smile as I held the door for her the next couple of mornings. She heard in lunchroom that after my divorce I was going to try Match.com. The next time I logged on, I got a match with a beautiful woman with the handle: “Wonele”. I read her profile which cracked me up, then I looked at the photo again, and I’m like… wait… I know this woman! (Wonele was another one of her nicknames, which was actually to advise people to spell her name with only one “L” instead of two. Lol)
Then for the next few weeks, every morning she would wait for me to hold the door for her, and every night we chatted on Match until I finally had the nerve to ask her out. Our first date was to meet after work at Long’s Park. Ok, maybe not the typical first-date venue, but that’s all the farther we planned. Neither of us had been out on a date in over 20 years. But that’s all we needed. Right away I found out that spending time with Michele in-person, was just something very special. She’s just genuinely warm and fun.
As we walked around in the park and made each other laugh, we passed the swing set which I couldn’t resist. She was hesitant (probably because she was wearing a skirt), but we finally got our swings synchronized side by side where we could hold hands and not whip out of control. She suddenly jumps off her swing, comes over and grabs mine and stops me. She stood in front of me and says, “Oh, let’s just get it over with!” and leans in and kisses me. And I’ve been in love with her ever since.
She was always anxious to see and experience everything she possibly could. One of our first adventures was a hike up to the Pinnacle on the Appalachian Trail to see the trees turning color. She hesitated looking up at the 100’ steep short cut I showed her. I insisted it was worth it, so she trusted me and climbed it. We stood at the top of the cliff and looked out at the incredible view, watching the hawks circling below us. We didn’t say anything at first, but then I was surprised when she started crying. All different scenarios went thru my head: Did I screw something up? Is she hurt? How will I get her back down? Should I slump her over my left shoulder or my right? I asked what was wrong. She simply said, “You brought me to a place that’s special to you, that’s all.” I don’t know anyone else who appreciated the simple things the way she did. She had a huge heart.
I took great comfort in how well we understood each other. One day on the beach, I overheard a little kid ask his mom, “Where are all the sea gulls”? The mom looked up curiously and replied, “I don’t know, honey.” Michele stopped talking to our friends, looked at me and told me, “…Wait.” We watched her move under the umbrella next to me and then said, “Ok”. At first, I didn’t know what she was doing. It was like she knew before I did – when I was about to do something stupid. I looked at the Cheese-It I was eating and smiled.
I am extremely grateful for the time we had. I will always love her.

I enjoyed working with Michele in the office at Lift-All.  We had some great times going out for lunch, painting, and theater after work.  Halloween was always fun, could always count on Dallas gear.
Remember your great memories.
