Richard William Deverter, 97

Richard W. Deverter, 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2023. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary (Robinson) Deverter. He married his beloved wife, Marie Elizabeth in 1949.

Richard was a well decorated member of the US Army and a World War II veteran in the 8th Armored Division. He was awarded two bronze stars for heroic achievement. After his retirement from the service in 1947, he found his home back in Lancaster. Richard is the former president of Lancaster County Farms Insurance, where he worked for 42 years until his retirement. He was also a founding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a both a deacon and an elder.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marie, and grandson, Brett Alan, and great-grandchildren, Richard Paul and Elizabeth Marie.

Memorial Services for Richard will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard’s memory may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.

My mom, Shirley, and I have enjoyed Richards company at Evergreen Estates for the past 2 years. He was truly special and so were his stories. We thanked him often for his service to our country. We will continue to look out for our Marie, his wonderful widow! Richard is truly an 😇.
