Hook was a special man.  He was a great friend that would do anything for you, without question.  He would give you the shirt off of his back, even if it was the only shirt that he owned. He was a humble man that taught us alot, just from his examples. He was a decorated military hero.  In his eyes, he wasn’t a hero, he was just doing his job for his battalion; but in the eyes of his fellow soldiers, he was a hero. He sacrificed himself for them. No, I didn’t serve with Hook, but I did serve many years after he did.  I know that his fellow soldiers look at him as a hero, because my best friend sacrificed himself for me, and my fellow sailors, and is our hero.  Hook, my brother in arms, thank you for serving, thank you for your sacrifice, thank you for your friendship, and thank you for being so much, for so many.
I salute you.
