Ruth A. (Rote) Dorfler, 95

December 16, 2016

Ruth A. (Rote) Dorfler of Juniper Village, Mount Joy, formerly of Lancaster and Havertown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on December 16, at age 95. A 1939 graduate of Manheim Township High School, she was the loving wife of 58 years to the late John T. Dorfler. She is survived by children John (Janet) Dorfler of Mount Joy, Susan (Dean) Brandt of South Carolina, and Ruth (Alan) Bennett of Michigan, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and sister Sallie (Todd) Bingaman of Elizabethtown. She was pre-deceased by 4 sisters, 1 brother, and 1 great grandson. In Havertown, Ruth was a longtime active member of Llanerch Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as a deacon. She volunteered for 22 years for Meals on Wheels, and was a Girl Scout leader and band mother. Ruth greatly enjoyed baking, smocking, poetry, photography, theatre, music, and traveling with her husband, especially to his native Austria. A special thanks to the staff of Juniper Village and Masonic Village Hospice for their dedication and commitment to our mother’s care. A private family memorial is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the East Donegal/Conoy Christian Food Bank, 155 Vinegar Ferry Road, Marietta, PA 17547.

Condolences to the Family

John and Janet,  My sympathy to you in your Mother’s passing. I spent only a few occasional moments with her and delighted in them.
I found that, since  my wise and wonderful Mother  died last year, I can hear her voice in many situations but greatly miss her quips and poetic insights. I suspect something similar for you.
May your heritage of loving life and creation continue in your blessed family.

Love you Aunt Dudie. You were a very special lady. Remembering a Christmas visit to her in Mount Joy I don’t know how many years ago. She was so gracious. Gwen and Ted
