Velma L. Duke

Velma L. Duke (Watt and Shand Retiree) 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 22, 2008. She resided at the Manor Care Nursing Facility, Lancaster, Pa. She was the wife of the late George T. Duke Sr. who died on January 31, 1979.

Velma was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Lancaster having been honored in 2001 with a luncheon for her 75 years of membership, she helped at the church in any capacity that she was needed and was active in the Baptists Women’s Missionary Circle. Velma enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, NASCAR Races and her cats and family.

She will be missed by her family and friends and she always said that she had lived a good long life by eating lots of chocolate, going to church and having a good sense of humor. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Catherine Hoin Curry. She is survived by a daughter, Doris A. wife of Larry G. Neuhauser, Lancaster Pa.-5 grandchildren -7 great grandchildren -12 great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons George Jr., Reeder M. Duke, a brother George Curry, a sister Mildred Lawrence and 4 grandsons. She was the last of her immediate family.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at First Baptist Church 612 N. Duke St. Lancaster, 17602 with Rev. Richard Hill officiating. Please omit flowers- memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church 612 N. Duke St. Lancaster, Pa. 17602 or Hospice of Lancaster County Box 4125 Lancaster, Pa. 17604.

Burial will be at the family’s discretion. Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home in charge of arrangements 393-9661.
