Rev. Patricia A. Dunlap, 82

Rev. Patricia A. (Templin) Dunlap, 82, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully August 26 at Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, where she had been a resident for one month.

She was born on November 3, 1929 to the late Raymond C. Templin and Ruby (McCullough) Templin of Coatesville, PA. She later moved to Ephrata with her parents and older brother Raymond Templin, Jr., currently a resident of Skowhegan, Maine.

A graduate of Ephrata H.S. in 1947, she received her B.S. in Psychology at Penn State University in 1951. While at Penn State, she met Stuart Dunlap and they were married on August 25, 1951. During a residency in Swarthmore, PA (1964-1974), Patricia taught psychology at Swarthmore High School. She and her family moved to England to study theology, finishing her Masters of Divinity degree at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1978.

In 1980, Patricia & Stuart were the first clergy couple to be ordained as Presbyterian ministers in Philadelphia. During their ministerial tenure, she served as co-chaplain at several retirement and skilled nursing facilities in PA and DE, as well as co-pastor of three churches in Maryland. She and Stu retired in 200I, with over 20 years of active ministry. They moved back to Lancaster in 2003.

Along with her husband of 61 years, Patricia is survived by her son Scott (and Roberta) Dunlap of Willingboro, NJ; daughter Mary (and Charles) Hippsley of Oxford, U.K.; son Mark (and Colleen) Dunlap of Phoenix, MD; daughter Anne (and Savage) Frieze of Norfolk, CT. She also leaves seven grandchildren: Caitlyn, Justin, Anthony, Andrew, Trevor, Amy and Sara.

She had a wonderfully creative spirit and enjoyed music, drama, art, painting and playing the harp. She had an energetic zest for life that she passed along to her children and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday September 7, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster with Rev. Dr. Donald Hackett officiating. A private service of interment will be in the church’s memorial garden. Attendees may greet family members at the church between 1 pm and 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse. http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/Giving/2012. To send online condolences, please visit SnyderFuneralHome.com. Dear Stuart and family,

My most sincere condolences regarding Patricia’s death.

I am sorry that I did not meet her earlier in her life.  She was an amazing person and her loving nature stayed with her as long as I knew her at Barrcrest.

Love, Light and Peace,
