John H. Frantz, 73

May 01, 2017

John H. Frantz, 73, of Lititz, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 1, 2017. He passed away surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with cancer.
Born in Pottsville, he was the husband of Deborah (Howett) Rose Frantz of Lititz, and the son of the late Jay “Chip” and Marie A. (Long) Frantz.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Lititz, where he served as an usher and was formerly on the Parish Council.
John was a proud US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam era. He served in Okinawa and was a member of the Presidential Honor Guard, serving under Lyndon B. Johnson. John was very patriotic and loved his country. He believed that all people should be self-sufficient and responsible for their own well-being.
He enjoyed sports and was a fan of Phillies baseball, Penn State football, and Duke University basketball. He liked reading books and taking care of the birds in his yard. In his earlier years, he coached youth baseball and basketball. He was employed as an operations construction manager for the majority of his career.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Diana McCoy and her husband J. Michael of Lancaster; Pamela Sisolak and her husband Gregory of Mount Laurel, NJ; John Frantz of Honeybrook; stepdaughter Natalie Rose of West Palm Beach, FL; and stepson Charles Rose and his wife Roxy of Huntsville, AL. He was “Poppy” to the 7 grandchildren he adored: Alexandra, Olivia, Bella, Emma, Luke, Paige, and Brady. He is survived by a sister, Nancy Leone of Orwigsburg, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna (Modesto) Frantz, and a brother, James.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, May 6, 2017 at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave, Lititz with the Rev. James O’Blaney, C.Ss.R. as Celebrant. Friends will be received from 10 to 11:30 prior to Mass at the church. Burial will be private.

I was blessed to call John my father-in-law for the past 21+ yrs.  He was so much more to me than the father of my bride, Diana.  He was someone to respect, emulate, and he was a truly loving and wonderful friend, father, and grandfather.  He loved his family more than anything and God and country followed very closely.  It’s impossible to express my love for this man and for all he taught me over the 25 yrs. we had together, but my life and that of all who knew him are far better for having him in our lives.
Dad, my love and respect for you will last eternally.  Thank you for treating me as your son and for being such a wonderful, loving grandfather to all your grandchildren.  May your soul rest in eternal peace.  I will do my best to honor you the rest of my days.
Your son,
Mike

I was very saddened to learn of John’s passing. I enjoyed going out to breakfast with him and talking sports.  When I called him several months ago he told me he had cancer and was going to begin treatment. I will miss our times together and our common love of Philadelphia. Sports. It was a pleasure knowing him. He will be missed.      Don Piefer

Many thoughts and prayers go out the the Frantz family in the weeks and months to come. The years from 1974 on became a changing time of all the families that lived on Watercress Lane. in Elizabethtown Pa. John @ Donna Frantz moved on to our street. We all became good friends and all of our kids were the same age and went to school together. That was some of the best times of all our lives. We as a group were all around the same age as young parents learning together for the first time.John was a great influence on all of us not only the adults but the kids as well . His love of the Phil. Sports and country was contagious even nick naming  his one daughter Rocky. Always a smile and gentle laugh, a go to individual with great insight . I am so grateful for his friendship never to be forgotten and always in our hearts. Until we meet again after our last trip God speed.  Ed @ Sherry Powl

My thoughts and prayers go to John’s family. John and I were good friends in our early years in Orwigsburg playing many games of football and baseball there. We shared a deep passion for the Phillies and the Nitttrany Lions.
May God bless you and hold you in his arms during this time of trial.
