Gertrude J. Harnish, 79
Gertrude J. Harnish, 79, of Lancaster, formerly of 108 Tracy Court, Willow Street, Pa died Thursday at Conestoga View. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Francis X. and Catherine Work Markert. Gertrude was the wife of the late Robert J. Harnish, who died in 1985. Her first husband Dennis D. Dougherty died in 1948. Mrs. Harnish was a Pastoral Visitor for ten years at St. Joseph Catholic Church and retired in 1999. Previously Mrs. Harnish was a licensed Register Nurse and worked at the three hospitials in Lancaster. She graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and was a member of the Alumni Association. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she participated in the Altar Rosary Society.
Surviving is a son: Dennis P. Dougherty husband of Susan Dougherty of Willow Street,Pa, two daughters: Denise D. wife of Joseph Ziegler of Lancaster, Pa., Anne L. wife of Francis Mastromatteo, New Baden, Illinois, three grandchildren, Shawn R. Dougherty, Nora K. Dougherty, Nicholas R. Mastromatteo, one brother, George B. Markert, two sisters: Dorothy M. wife of Robert Rebman, H. Jane wife of Albert Boerger. She was preceded in death by two brothers Francis C. Markert, John P. Markert and two sisters; Edna M. Burger and Catherine R. Mowry.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph Street, Lancaster, Pa on Tuesday at 11:00am. Friends may pay their respects to the family at the church from 10:00-11:00am. Please join the family for lunch at St. Joe’s hall immediately after the service. There will be a private interment at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gertrude’s memory to The Living Trust of Shawn R.
