June M. Henkel
June M. Henkel, R.N., of Lancaster, passed away at home on Saturday March 11, 2006.
Born June 21, 1926 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mildred Shultz Vitale, and was married to John A. Henkel for 54 years.
June graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1944 and Germantown Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She was a staff nurse in labor and delivery for 32 years at Lancaster General Hospital, retiring in 1988.
An active member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, she participated in Guys and Dolls, the Women’s Auxiliary, and volunteered for bingo at St. Anne’s. She enjoyed traveling, cruises and knitting.
Surviving besides her husband are a son, David M. Henkel, married to Ann M. Wiggins of Landisville; two grandchildren, Michael A. Henkel, husband of Amy Brown, and Sarah A. Henkel; and a brother, James A., husband of Barbara Vitale of Bradenton, FL. She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Vitale Elduff.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be from St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Please omit flowers.
