Elvin S. “Pappy” Henry, 96

Elvin S. “Pappy” Henry, 96, formerly of Lancaster, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Brereton Manor in Washington Boro. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Martin and Ida Sauder Henry. His wife of 54 years Grace Bachman Henry died in 1996.

Pappy had been a truck driver for B.B. Martin Lumber Co., which then became J.C. Snavely, retiring in 1980.  He continued to work part time there until the age of 88.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Millersville. Pappy enjoyed collecting die cast model cars, attending car shows and woodworking. A very caring person, he loved spending time with his family and sharing stories.

Pappy’s family includes his five children, John M., husband of Rosemary Henry, Pequea, James L, husband of Maureen Henry, Lancaster, Judy E., wife of Frank Chesters, Lancaster, Jeffrey L. Henry, Millersville, and Julie A., wife of Francis Ehrgood, Washington Boro, and 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by sisters Cecelia Urban and Ada Stoltzfus.

The Funeral will be held 11 AM Monday, March 26, 2012, at Grace United Methodist Church, with The Rev. John Laughlin officiating. Viewings will take place 6-8 PM Sunday, March 25th at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA, and also 10-11 AM on Monday at the Church. Interment in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Grace U.M. Church, 163 W. Frederick St., Millersville, PA 17551.
