Charles Richard Herr, 84

Charles Richard Herr, 84, known by many as Rich or Dick, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at QPRC. He was born in Shamokin to the late Clair R. and Ruth (Fleming) Herr.

Rich is survived by his wife, Phyllis Helene (Schultz) Herr. They were married on June 5, 1948 and recently celebrated their 63 wedding anniversary.

Rich served his country with the US NAVY and is a Veteran of WWII.

He retired from Nationwide Insurance as a Claims Supervisor.

Rich graduated from Shamokin High School and the Susquehanna University. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and was an active Penn State football fan. He and his wife attended most PS Bowl games.

He was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Sue Thomas, wife of Trevor, of Willow Street, two grandchildren, Alexandra Schulz, wife of Zachary, of Centerville, and Cameron Herr, of Willow Street. He was preceded in death by a son Clair R. Herr.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community Chapel 625 Robert Fulton Highway Quarryville, PA 17566 at 11am. Military Honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. A visitation with the family will be from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charles memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Church St. Station P.O. My deepest condolences to Phyllis and the family on the death of Mr. Herr.  I remember with fondness my visits with you both when I served on staff at Lancaster Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.  May God comfort your hearts as you grieve your loss.  I remember Mr. Herr as a kind gentleman with a sweet Christlike manner.
