Condolences to the Family

May 06, 2016

Dear Susie and girls,
I am saddened to learn of your father and grandfather’s passing.  I have many pleasant memories of Bob as he regaled me with tales of his early life in Conestoga, wartime in the Pacific, career with PE and so much more!  As I performed my duties across Main Street, he would often walk over to offer landscape advice or to entertain me with a story about “Osc”, and together, their escapades in the old days.
My first Halloween at Conestoga, I recall Bob approaching me with a mischievous grin and introducing me to a device of his own invention: a large metal hook attached to an extension pole.  He said that I would find it useful…the following morning, I arrived to prepare for a service, only to find massive volumes of toilet paper criss-crossing Main Street in the trees above – apparently a longstanding Conestoga Halloween tradition, which with Bob’s help, was quickly removed in time for the funeral service that was scheduled for later that day.
After your mother’s passing, he spoke of her often and of them being together since childhood.  With his expressive widening eyes and the familiar cock of his head , I can see him and hear him yet, saying.  “you know, I married my best friend!. We were never not together”  Well Susie, I hope you find comfort in knowing they are together again…
Ever the gentleman, I valued your dad’s friendship and I will miss him.

With Sincere Sympathy,
James B. Steffy
