Barbara A. Herring

Barbara A. Herring was a devoted wife, amazing mother and the best Mommom that her grandchildren could have.  She was faithfully devoted to making sure her family was loved and cared for.

The only thing more important to Barbara than her relationship with the Lord was the joy she received in knowing her children and grandchildren walk with the Lord.

She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing, on Saturday, August 22, 2009.  She and her surviving spouse of 58 years, Walter, were dedicated laymen in the Church of the Nazarene active in churches in Pennsylvania, California, Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia.

Barbara particularly enjoyed sharing her gift of hospitality, preparing dinners for various church functions.  As an artist she shared her love of painting, holding classes at the churches she attended.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four daughters, Helen, wife of Ron McCormick of Manassas, VA, Beverly, wife of Rick Quevedo, of Mufreesboro, TN, Ruth, wife of Lee Russell of Kennett Square, PA, and Carol, wife of David Cargile, of Lancaster, PA, 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 3 beloved sisters and one devoted brother.

A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held Wednesday morning, August 26, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m., at The Lancaster Church of the Nazarene, 2150 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA. Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery, Kennett Square, Pa.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a memorial fund in her name at The Lancaster Church of the Nazarene.

Uncle Walt and family,
Aunt Barbara was one of those wonderful people who always warmed the hearts of others.  I know she is in heaven now.
I will always remember her great golfing skills and her wonderful homemade noodles that she made for us.  We lost her, but God gained an angel I will keep her in my heart forever.
Love and Prayers,
Carolyn and Bill Hooven

Walt,
We just heard the news of Barbara’s passing.  Our prayers and condolences are with you during this time.  Wish we could be there for the celebration of her life but our thoughts will be.  May God bring you strength and comfort during this time.
Jim, Paula, Whitney and Logan Cox

Dear Walt and yours,
The news of Barbara’s death came as a shock.  There isn’t much one can say to ease your sense of loss, but we want you to know our thoughts are with you in this time of sorrow. Barbara was a dear friend – many-many memories – her love of the church and of course North East Camp (she was a worker and could really put together a good meal). Please accept our deepest sympathy.
Love, Bill and Gay Ward –
Locust Grove, Ga.

I was so sad to hear of Barbara’s passing.  There will always be two things I remember most about her, her love for Jesus and her love for her family.  She has left a wonderful legacy with her children.  We are remembering you all in prayer.
Your friends,
Doug, Phyllis, and Stephen Shannon.

Dear Walt and Girls:
Charlotte and I were made sad when Rob called us yesterday to inform us of Barb’s passing.  Our prayers are with you all.  We have fond memories of good times spent with Barb’s wit and wisdom.  As we recall, there was never a dull moment when in her presence.  We seek God’s comfort for all of you now, and take even greater comfort in knowing that she is in a better place.  She has taken the privilege of going on before us, but we have the hope of re-uniting again with all our loved ones in Heaven.  That’s going to quite a celebration, and, as the song writer wrote "ten thousand years, and we’ll just have started, ten thousand years, and we’ll only have just begun."
May the Lord of all Grace and Comfort be your Source and Strength.
Your friends
Robert & Charlotte Faulstick

Dear Walt,
I am so sorry to hear of your wife’s passing.  I heard about it at Root’s yesterday so I came home to look it up in the paper.  I had read the article but I never knew your last name.  Now I know. She definitely is the winner in this situation.  To be present with the Lord is so much better.  We have the wonderful assurance that we will meet again. But you spent so much time caring for her that you will have a big hole in your life.  I ask Jesus to fill that spot with more of His wonderful love and grace and I know HE will. You are always such a wonderful encourager, Walt and I appreciate you so much.
God Bless and love,
Nancy Stoltzfus
