James M. Hershey, 53

James M. “Jim” Hershey, 53, of Lancaster, PA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 15, 2007, at the Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by many who loved him.  Born in Lancaster, Jim was the son of Jane W. Hershey of Lancaster, and the late Roy D. Hershey, and beloved husband of Barbara (Judith) Hershey.  They celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary in August.

Jim was a longtime member of Paradise Bible Fellowship Church, where he served for many years as an elder, member of the finance committee, and Sunday school teacher.  Jim was recently retired from Lancaster County Mental Health, Mental Retardation where he had been employed for 17 years.

Jim enjoyed going to the seashore, fishing, and camping, and playing pinochle, hearts, and chess, as well as spending time with friends and family.  He was a person who was an amazing testimony to the many lives he touched.  Although he suffered from Ankylosing Spondylytis, he was always concerned for the welfare of others, and was quick to share his faith in Christ with them.

Besides his wife and mother, Jim is survived by a son and daughter of whom he was very proud: Sgt. Andrew J. Hershey, presently serving his country as a medic in the 101st Airborne in Iraq, and Lydia Rose Hershey, at home.  Jim is also survived by a sister, Nancy, wife of Nelson Pacheco of Lancaster, and a niece, Colleen Roland of Lancaster.

Memorial services will be held at the Paradise Bible Fellowship Church, 3092 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise, PA on Saturday, November 24, 2007 with the Pastor Shan Cleck officiating.  Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30AM with the service to follow at 10:30AM.  Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Paradise Bible Fellowship Church.
