Sondra “Sue” H. Hill, 73

Sondra "Sue" H. Hill, 73, of Lancaster, died Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Essa Flory Hospice Center after a lengthy illness.

Sue viewed her three-year battle with cancer as an opportunity to savor her life and the time she was given to spend with her family and friends.  She was very aware and thankful for the special blessings in her life:  her faith, her family, and her friends.

Born in Batesville, Indiana, Sue was the devoted daughter of the late Maurice A. Hellmich and Naomi Roell Hellmich.  She was the beloved wife of John P. (Jake) Hill with whom she recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.

Sue grew up in Batesville, Indiana, attended Barry College for Women, and graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, with a degree in Business.  Before her marriage, she worked in Cincinnati for Federated Department Stores and, later, as the Personnel Manager for Gruen Watch Co.   In Lancaster, she was employed as a tax preparer for Lloyd Scheid Tax Service.

The volunteer work of which she was most proud was the organization of a parent volunteer program at Nathan C. Schaeffer Elementary School.  She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years.  She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband, Jake, Sue is survived by two daughters, Sara Hill Wallace, wife of William J. Wallace, of Fairfield, CT, and Nancy A. Hill of Chicago, IL; one son, John M. Hill, husband of Karry Gebhardt Hill, of Grafton, WI; five grandchildren, John R. Wallace, Katherine A. Wallace, Robert H. Wallace, Henry R. Hill, and John G. Hill; and a brother, Thomas R. Hellmich, husband of Joan Oswald Hellmich, of Batesville, IN.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church, 601 East Delp Road, Lancaster, Pa 17601.  The family will also be accepting visitors on Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz 17543.

Interment will be at St. Louis Church Cemetery, in Batesville, IN.  Memorial contributions in Sue’s memory may be sent to Hospice of Lancaster County P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
