Barry D. Hogan, 77

October 24, 2023

We announce with deep sorrow the passing of Barry D. Hogan, aged 77, of Manheim Township, Lititz, PA. He departed this world on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at LGH/Penn Medicine Hospital. A native son of Lancaster, Barry was the cherished child of the late John A. and Leah (Roth) Hogan.

Barry’s academic journey was marked by early years at the esteemed Staunton Military Academy in Virginia, followed by his graduation from Manheim Township High School. He furthered his education at Nichols College in Dudley, MA. Inspired by his experiences and a deep sense of gratitude, Barry established the Barry D. Hogan 67’ Endowed Scholarship. This benevolent gesture has already benefitted countless students over the past years and promises to support many more in the years to come.

Throughout Lancaster County, Barry’s name became synonymous with real estate development. With an enduring love for Lancaster at his core, Barry transformed skylines and neighborhoods, passionately working on numerous projects, notably the esteemed Bent Creek Country Club. Barry’s involvement also spanned the foundation of several restaurants, enhancing the culinary scene of Lancaster County. His commitment to the community shone brightly with his contributions to the Hogan & Herr Children’s Library.

Outside his professional life, Barry was a man of diverse interests. He reveled in time spent with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren, and spending time at his second home in Avalon, NJ. A golfer at heart, he held memberships at Bent Creek Country Club, Wildwood Country Club, and Stone Harbor Golf Club. Barry’s penchant for history was evident in his vast collection of early American Historical glass, one of the nation’s finest. He was also an avid collector of Pennsylvania folk art and early Americana.

Barry leaves behind a loving family: daughter Kimberly McDade and her husband Wayne of Lancaster; son John Hogan of El Paso, TX; devoted companion Robin Lapi of Lititz; stepchildren Noel Sturgeon (Jeff), Alexandra Perate, Sydney Grubbs (Philip), and Olivia Perate. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Sierra, Sommer, Austin; step-grandchildren Wolf, Bode, Asa, and Tripp; and great-grandchild Bentlee. His special sister, Jere (Roth) Lovellete, and a host of cousins and extended family in Georgia will cherish his memories.

A Celebration honoring Barry’s Life will be held at Bent Creek Country Club, 620 Bent Creek Dr., Lititz, PA 17543, on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 5 p.m. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. in the ballroom of Bent Creek. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the scholarship Barry created to help students, Barry D. Condolences to the Family

November 08, 2023

Barry and I grew up as next door neighbors on Skyline Drive in Manheim Township. We were close friends from Nathan C. Sheaffer Elementry school through Manheim Township high school graduation. He was the cool guy and I was the nerdy one. I missed him for those years at Staunton, which in all frankness, served him well. That friendship continue as young marrieds. His parents Leah and John were my adopted aunt and uncle. I spent many hours with Uncle Johnny looking at his extensive stamp collection; a hobby I had as a young kid. My earliest memory of Barry was in kindergarten.  We took the required naps next to each other. I remember his rug smelled funny. I am one of those who has few memories of growing up, but that one I do. I left Lancaster in 1993. I remember connecting during a visit back. I returned for good in 2016. I regret and apologize that I did not reach out to him. My condolances to John, Kim and the extended Roth cousins. Unfortuantely I will be out of town for the celebration of life. A life well lived. Thanks for the extensive obituary, It made me smile to learn of his accomplishments and generousity. David Brener, Ephrata, PA

Kim and family,
So very sorry for your loss.  In our last conversation with him he was saying how proud he was of his family.  I appreciate his involvement in starting our business.  He was a truly special person with a big heart and a passion for so many things in life.

My sincere condolences. Barry and I were not close friends but good friends. We had many real estate transactions and several car deals in the past. Always had a good time together and I’ll miss him. After knowing him for all these years, never knew he went to Staunton as did I. We probably crossed paths and never realized it. My best to the family

I was so shocked to see Barry’s picture in the paper. I have known him for almost 50 years: through his association with Hevener, he taught me a few things about real estate financing many years ago, but mostly we shared a common love of the C2 Corvettes. Barry and I had quite a few conversations over the years on the attributes of that particular generation of automobiles.  I haven’t chatted with him for several years so it is with sadness I learned of his passing. Please accept my condolences. May he find a new development project in heaven.

Barry was a great friend to me for more than 20 years, playing a lot of golf together at Meadia Heights, Bent Creek, and Stone Harbor.  He was very generous and helpful when we purchased our first home from him and when we joined Bent Creek CC.  Although I moved from Lancaster more than 20 years ago, I remember him fondly.  To his family and friends, please accept my condolences.

I am so very sorry to hear of Barry’s passing. I’m very thankful I got to see him in April. Growing up we loved our trips to Lancaster. There are precious memories of our trips to the farm. The Hogan cousins have always been so close, such a special family. I have so many wonderful memories of Barry, he was such a good person. May he rest in peace.
