Duane V. Holder

Duane V. Holder passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2012 at LGH surrounded by his family.  He was born November 28, 1938 in Coffeyville, Kansas, the son of the late Violet and Willis Holder.

Duane is survived by his loving wife, Charlyne Atty- Holder with whom he shared 27 years of happiness. He was the father of three children: Dana, married to Tommy Leahy, Arlington, Texas, Deborah, married to Jay Hritz, Hamilton, New Jersey, and Sandi, married to John Farlow, Rockledge, Florida. Duane is also survived by his brother, Danny, husband of Jackie Holder, Daytona Beach, Florida.  His older brother Dallas preceded him in death.  A proud grandfather, Duane dearly loved his 2 grandchildren, Shane and Shannon Leahy, as well as his beloved dog Rocky.

After graduation from Coffeyville High School, Duane attended college and later proudly became a member of the United States Marine Corps.  Duane then joined Benefit Trust Life Insurance Company as a salesperson. He enjoyed an outstanding career of nearly 50 years with Benefit Trust Life, now known as Trustmark Insurance Co. and became a highly regarded Regional Sales Director.

Duane was an avid athlete, enjoying boxing, weight lifting, strength training and above all tennis.  He lived his life embodying strength and perseverance, his motto was “try harder” and “never give up”. He was a warrior with a spirit that couldn’t be dampened.  Most importantly Duane loved and enjoyed sharing each day with his extended family, faithful friends, and he developed a deep loyalty toward his colleagues.

He was a member of the Rajah Shrine, Landon, Pa., The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in the Valley of Reading, The Lancaster Lodge #43 F. & A.M., Hempfield Area Recreational Center, Bent Creek Country Club, and the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

Duane was a special member of the PFP family. His energy, optimism and care for each employee and member was exemplary. 22 years of working together has left us with so many great memories. We’ll surely miss our dear friend and associate.

Mark and Deborah Sessel

So sorry for your loss. Duane was such a part of our PFP family. He will be missed by all.

Dear Charlyne, Patty, and family
When Todd sent that message, with the sad news of the passing away of Cousin Duane, we all were in shock in Amioun. Some did not know Duane, true; but others who did know him, or of him, have indeed felt so sorry. He always was kind and welcoming, and without saying much, he was able to communicate plenty of warmth, with his big smile. Now the name is more familiar to relatives in Amioun. They even had the chance to look at his happy smile in the picture online.
Once I get back to America, my wife Wafa and myself will try to make it to Lancaster to be with you for a short while, for an exchange of feelings and thoughts. Sorrow is an occasion for families and kin to get together and reconfirm the bond. Wafa has good remembrances with all kin in Lancaster. She even once suggested to think of it as a place for residence, just to be closer to you all. And, she feels so sorry for the loss of Duane.
Bless you all, and may the memory of Duane be eternal, with his soul in peaceful repose in a heavenly dwelling. Most of us believe in resurrection. So do you, I believe.

Wafa and Naim

Although our meeting was brief, the impact Duane made is lasting. He will be surely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

My sincere condolences,

Charlene and Family,

We were so sad to hear of Duane’s passing. He was my first USTA Mixed Doubles partner and had a huge influence on my love and dedication to the sport. In fact, I think he warned me about Ben. 🙂 We will always remember our great trips to Virginia Beach and Maine with him and the team. I still laugh when I think of him blaming Ben for getting Linda and me drunk before our big match in VA. He was spirited and charming and generous. Tennis lost one of it’s greats.

Out thoughts and prayers are with you. Please let us know if there is anything we can do.

With love,
Ben & Kathy Oostdam

Ken and Kathleen Birnbaum offer our sincere condolences for your loss.

Charlyne and family, my heart and prayers are with you. Duane was a man of many words and will be greatly missed at the Rec center. He is now another sparkling star in the sky. God be with you and yours.

Linda Spence

Duane was a great guy and will be missed.

He was the kind of person who was very competitive but knew how to motivate others in his own special way.

So sorry to hear of Duane’s passing! He really was a great guy and certainly lived life to the fullest. His love for not only life but also tennis made me a believer and I have wound up playing and teaching because Duane really pushed me to learn the game better. His comment – "hit like a man" – although somewhat kiddingly said always stuck and pushed me along to play more enthusiastic. That was the type of guy Duane was – always there for you, always had your back and a true gentleman! Sorry I could not attend as I am on vacation this week in the Carolinas, but our thoughts and prayers are with Duane and his family!!

Fondly Remembering Duane;

Ron and Barbara Gentner

Dear cousin Charlyne,

Caron and I are so saddened to hear this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We are so sorry that we were not able to be with you for the services, but, hopefully, we will be seeing you soon. Please accept our deepest condolences.

May his memory be eternal.

Ghassan, Caron, Sophie and Olivia Atiyeh

Duane will forever remain in our hearts. His friendship, support, and never fail attitude inspired so many people – especially his PFP team.  You know, he always said he was part Trustmark, part PFP.  We will miss him, the laughs, his dinners, and his kindness which had no end.

Extending my deepest sympathy.

Love,
Jim Ahrens
