Faith, Steven and all of John’s family members:

I will remember John fondly for his kind and gentle soul.  He had a radiating smile and attitude that embodied the love of the Hunters Ridge neighborhood.  This is a tough one, but I smile as I imagine Lou F. and Jack H. welcome their brother into rest.

In prayer and love,
Kathy Cenekofsky

"Big Game" John Hollern……I will miss you my friend. Just a couple of weeks ago I was working the Solanco vs. LS game and there you were cackling at me on the sideline with Dick McCue. I had to walk off the field and say hello and exchange in some friendly bantor!

I got my basketball schedule a couple weeks ago and saw we were assigned a few games together and I couldn’t wait to work them. Not only because you were my partner but when ever you were assigned a game with John Hollern it was a "Big Game"!

Your passing seems both cruel and unfair to those left behind. Your life, however was the opposite…..you were both kind and fair. Your sense of humor, demeanor and the respect you showed others will be missed. I know when I think of you in the future it will be with fond memories and a smile.

My thoughts and prayers are with Faith and Steven during these trying times. The impact of your life will live on in them and the others you have touched in your life.

I will miss you my friend!

To John’s Family.
My name is Brian Striver, I worked with John at Ecore Intl. John was such a great guy! Every time you would see him he would light up with a smile! His eyes would sparkle and he would say something that would make you laugh! He had a big heart. He always made you feel welcomed. I was glad to have met and work with John. I am sorry for your loss. We lost a great addition to society. May God bless and keep you strong through this.

Dear Faith & Family,

I don’t know if you recall whom my brother and I are, we met for the first time at a BBQ in the Thomas Beitzel family backyard with a few of folks from Dodge – Regupol attending. We are distributors for the rubber flooring products out of California.  John was our first go to person at Dodge Regupol and we very much had a good time with his personality on display almost constantly ripping us for one thing or another in good fun of course. I recall when lancaster got their Single "A" ball club and he forwarded me an official hat and some local chatter in the paper about the new team as we were both big baseball fans.  I reciprocated by mailing him our local teams hat for his collection as well. Always good memories of John and his willingness to always help as best he could for our business to succeed.

Our deepest condolences at this time of sorrow.

Dear Faith and Steven

With great shock I have heard about Johns sudden death. It is still hard to believe. Only several weeks ago on one of my trips to the US John we ran into each other. Before that I had not seen him ever since we split off the Dodges in May 2007… I had a good and long chat with him. He seemed so happy! We were – like many years ago we always did – laughing and joking. John and I were never close friends but good colleagues and we always liked and respected each other much!! I always liked working with him and being around him. He was a very straight forward and most likable, honorable man! I am so sorry to hear the tragedy! It is so hard to lose a beloved partner and father.
My thoughts are with both of you and all the other family members and friends that are left behind. May god give you strength to get through these difficult times to come! I wish I could help!
Upon one of my next trips to the Lancaster area I shall contact you and I hope that we can meet. I would also love to then go to Johns grave and pay him my respect!
Please know that both of you and John are in my thoughts a lot.
Take good care, Peter

We are all saddened by the loss of John.  We will, however, continue to cherish many pleasant interactions we have had with him over the years.  He was always good to be around and was quick to laugh and tell a joke.  We mostly know John from basketball, and he will be sorely missed on the courts this year. We pray that God will comfort your souls.  And we pray that we all can be there for you in the days to come.

We just learned of John’s passing from the GFA and wanted to express our condolences from Ilene Industries, Inc. in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Every GFA meeting we attended, we could always count on a smile or a kind word from John. He will be sadly missed. We know that He was a man of faith and that God welcomed John Home and the family will see John again if you stay strong in the Lord.

Respectfully,

Faith and Steven,

I was so sorry to hear of John’s passing today at Ecore International. We worked together there and I also did some work at your home. John was my key contact from Ecore, then Dodge Regupol, in convincing the company to sponsor a golf tournament hat I help run for the Elizabethtown Rotary for Cancer Research. I could always count on John for some dry humor and an honest answer. We had Steelton in common and I think that is where we really clicked in the beginning. John will long be remembered. I saw him about a month ago and we talked at Ecore about the coming basketball season and Steven. Sorry for your loss.

Faith, Steven and Family
I have had the pleasure of knowing John for over twenty years, from meeting him when he was a sales rep for Roadway to working with him at Dodge-Regupol/Ecore.  He always had an upbeat attitude and would find ways to make you smile, from his speeches, to him poking fun at you or himself, to the nicknames he would give people (mine was "Mrs Paterno"). John projected his love for his family and life everyday.  I am saddened to hear of his passing and offer you and your family my sincerest condolences. He will be greatly missed and always thought about fondly.

Mary and family, what a loss. John was such a sweet guy. I was so sorry to hear this.  My family liked John so much; he was very good friends with my brother, Bob, in high school. I mourn with all of you. Please accept our sympathy.

Faith,
Though I knew your husband for only 3 short years through summer swim team, I enjoyed volunteering beside him at the meets. He welcomed my family and I to the team and loved to share a story with me. During the first year that Olivia and Everett were on the team he told me, "You may as well volunteer for every meet. It beats sitting around all night". How right he was! I will keep you, Steve, and your family in my prayers.

We send our condolences to Faith, Steven and the extended family of John Hollern.  An unexpected passing is difficult and we pray for God’s peace and comfort over the family.

Coach Ferris Atty informed me today, after church services, of John’s passing.  I am shocked and saddened of the news.  I remember John as a great kid at Steel-High.  It has been many years since I have seen or talked to John, but he is a Steeltonian and that will always be ever lasting.  May God grant you and your family the strength to get you through this difficult time.

Coach Phil Gruich

Faith and Steven,

Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.  May your memories of your John give you strength.
I had the honor of working with John at Ecore and have missed hearing his "John Hollern Speaking" as he picked up the phone.  All of us at Ecore wish you the very best in strength to get thru this difficult time – he was a pleasure to work with and listen to when he talked of the two of you and all the activities he enjoyed.  The swim teams will feel the loss of his presence as will High School basketball!
take care,
Kasey Gordon

Allow me to offer your family my sincere condolences.  I have know John for about 15 years, first meeting him as a basketball official.  He was also a neighbor and a friend. He was always a nice young man to engage in conversation with.  I saw him recently about two weeks ago at a L/S football game.  We talked about 30 minutes.  John and I worked a few basketball games together.  He was well liked by fellow officials and the kids he worked games for.

Sometimes words just aren’t enough and life can be so hard.  May you be comforted by the many warm thoughts and memories John gave you.  He was a wonderful friend. God provides us with many challenges, but I can think of none greater then the death of family member.  I have lost my wife and two daughters through bouts with cancer.  It seems awful lonely at times but I try very hard to deal with those challenges.  My prayers are with your family.

Dick McCue

Your family is in our thought and prayers!  Keep all your wonderful memories close to your heart.  We do understand your sorrow.

Deb, Morgan, Matthew and Summer Bartholomew

To the Hollern Family — My deepest condolences. John called on me & our company when he was with Ecore. I always looked forward to his visits and to seeing him at the GFA meetings. I will always remember the golf outings & baseball games that I went to with John.
