William J. Hoover

William James Hoover (Bill), born August 17, 1926 to the late Jacob and Mildred Posten Hoover, passed onto the Lord November 6th, 2010, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Magdalene Reed Hoover, his three children: William J. Hoover II husband of Ann of Lititz, Kathleen H. Denlinger wife of Mark of Lancaster, and Sharon H. Lilley of Mountville.  “Pop” has three grandsons: Matthew Hoover husband of Jennifer, Christopher Lilley husband of Jennifer, and Troy Hoover.  “Pop Pop” has two great granddaughters, Kelsey and Kaylee daughters of Matthew and Jennifer.  The following siblings also survive Bill: Donald, Helen, Jacob, and Richard.  Edith, Robert and Janie preceded him in death.

Bill especially loved being with his family and enjoyed getting together as often as he could with his family especially during weekends, holidays, and special events. He was a defender of America during World War II by volunteering for the Navy and serving in the Pacific theater. Bill retired from Lancaster Lincoln Mercury with over 50 years of service, and owned and operated Hoover’s Garage in Georgetown.

Bill was also a member of the following organizations:  Christiana Lodge # 417 F.& A.M., he was a 32nd degree Mason of North America, Zembo Shrine, A.A.O.M.M.S., Scottish Rite of Lancaster, member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest #27, active in the Slumbering Ground Hog Lodge of Quarryville, the Strasburg Sportsman’s Association, Hemlock Lodge in Potter County and the Lancaster County Moonlite Cruisers where he proudly showed his 1965 Ford Falcon Futura.

Bill came to know Jesus later in life during his stay at Country Meadows, and surely Jesus will welcome him with open arms.  Known for his huge heart and his willingness to always help others, he will be sorely missed. Bill’s family would especially like to extend thanks and appreciation to the entire staff at Country Meadows, an exceptional group of people who loved and cared for Bill for almost 2 years.

Dear Bill, Kathy, Sharon and families,

It was with a real sense of sadness that I read of your Dad’s passing this morning!  Knowing all of you and your Mom and Dad was a part of my growing up years, never then or in all the years since did I ever meet your Dad and not be greeted with his warm smile and often a hug too. I’m sure you all are blessed with so many wonderful memories and they will be such a comfort to you now and in years to come.  While Rufus and I were remembering your father he thought of the many times he worked on vehicles for Rufus’ Dad and also for himself, such a talented mechanic!  I know this will be a time of sadness for you but remember to rejoice in the fact that your Dad now roams the streets of gold with all the saints and we can all look forward to a reunion one day!

Blessings,
Rufus and Sharon (Howe)Kreider

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this hard time. Uncle Bill was so very special to me and my family.  As my children were growing up they liked to visit Uncle Bill at his garage.  When I visited him at Country Meadows with mom and dad we had a great time.  He insisted on walking out to our car. He was so very special to me.

Love
Helen and Bruce Mohler and family

To the family  we want to send our condolences to you all.  We met Bill and Maggie through car club.  They were both such good friends to my Husband and I.  We will miss him alot.  I know it is tough losing a father, I lost mine two years ago.  I hope you all have the strength to keep going because that is what your father would want.  Remember the good times you had with him. They  out weigh everything else.  He is in a better place now.

Joe and Brenda Huddle

My condolences to Bil’s family.
Bill and the late Jim Cox and I shared many a meal together at Country Meadows as table mates. Many times he offered me his dessert. Jim and I also shared "happy hour" with Bill with Jim and I on the bar stools and Bill behind the bar always smiling and sharing his private stock with Jim.
Bill was a loving husband, a very kind person and I will always remember him from Country Meadows.  May God bless him and his Family
Jacqueline Reinhold (Companion to the late Jim Cox)
