Nikolaos C. Kambouroglos, 89

Nikolaos C. Kambouroglos, 89, of 515 Hand Avenue, Lancaster, died Wednesday evening at his home following a brief illness.

Nikolaos was the husband of Kalliopi Gerasklis Kambouroglos. They celebrated 57 years of marriage on January 9. Born in Zia, Kos, Greece, he was the son of the late Constantine and Argyro Lambroglou Kambouroglos.

Nikolaos came to the United States in 1971. He was employed by the School District of Lancaster as a custodian at J.P. McCaskey High School for 11 years. Mr. Kambouroglos was an accomplished carpenter by trade. While living in Greece, he made furniture and home repairs, and was known for his attention to detail.

He was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, and their AGAPI Bible Study group, and was a volunteer at the annual church bazaar.  He was also a member of the Pan-Coan Society. An avid gardener, he enjoyed storytelling, and loved his church and his family.

Surviving besides his wife are 8 children; Demetra K., wife of Kostas P. Giourtis; Kosta N., husband of Nitsa V. Kambouroglos; Diane, wife of Mark J. Kostaris; Elias N., husband of Stella Kambouroglos; Georgia, wife of Michael F. Zalalas; Argy, wife of Doug Pagan; Thomas N., husband of Catherine E. Kambouroglos; and Tony “Antoni” N., husband of Francine V. Kambouroglos, all of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sophia, wife of Gus S. Kouros of Lancaster. He was also survived by 23 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Yiasemi Hatzestergos of Kos, Greece and Katina Kassiou of Sidney, Australia; and a brother, Michael Kambouroglos of Sidney, Australia. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Demetri, Antoni and Sevastos; and a sister, Maria Papapostolou.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603. A viewing will be held on Friday evening at Annunciation Church from 7-9 p.m; with the Trisagion service at 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park. Please omit flowers; memorial contributions in Nikolaos’ memory may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
