Omer E. King, 77

February 21, 2022

Omer Eli King, 77, died at Hershey Medical Center on Monday, February 21, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha (Marty) S. (Kanagy) King. He was born in Belleville, Pennsylvania on April 22, 1944 and was the son of the late Daniel N. and Sylvia (Hostetler) King.

Omer attended school until grade nine when he left to work the family farm. After receiving his GED, he went on to receive his Master of Divinity from Eastern Baptist (Palmer) Theological Seminary. Omer formally retired in 2013 after serving 43 years as a Pastor and Interim Pastor with the Brethren in Christ and Mennonite Churches. After he retired, he drove school bus in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and also in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

He and his wife, Marty, have lived in Brethren Village for three years and are long-time members of the Brethren in Christ Church community. Omer was strongly mission-minded and had a passion for inviting others to Jesus, connecting with them in loving relationships, equipping them to serve, and supporting them as they were sent into the world.

Omer also had a passion for learning about his ancestry and spent much time tracking down information back to the tenth generation. He also loved his extended family and spent over 25 happy summers gathering together at the “King Cabin”. Family will remember him, not only for his love for Jesus, but also for his genuine interest and care for their lives and his love for fun and fireworks.

In addition to Marty, Omer is survived by his children, Nathan D. King, Lititz and Jeffrey S. King, Lancaster, and 1 grandson, Alexander (Xander) V. King as well as one brother, Samuel (Joyce) King, Belleville, PA and three sisters, Nancy (Richard) Marsh, Jacksonville, FL, Esther (Glenn) Troyer, Sugarcreek, OH, and Verna (Guy) Rocker, Port Leyden, NY along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Omer was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel N. King, Jr. and a sister.

Funeral services will be 4:00pm on Friday, March 4 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike Lititz, PA 17543 with Rev. Warren Hoffman. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until the start of the funeral service on Friday, March 4, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike Lititz, PA 17543. The burial at Locust Grove Cemetery in Belleville will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be sent to Brethren in Christ World Missions, https://bicus.org/missions/, 431 Grantham Road Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.

Dear Marty,. Words cannot say how sad we are to hear of the passing of Omar. He was such a devout man for Jesus.  PK  influenced our lives while he was at Hebron. We can see him sitting on his stool while we took notes in our notepads. The both of you were such loving people. He truly helped Hebron to “grow up” while he was there. He will truely be missed.  Love., Marvin and Marcia Horst

Dear Marty, Thinking of you during your time of loss. I remember Omer well and always enjoyed his smile. You both were young people that I looked up to when my father was your pastor at Big Valley. I will treasure the memories. May God bless you with His presence and peace as He provides comfort as you grieve. Charles and Miriam Sollenberger

Dear Marty and family, Bob and I were sorry to hear of PK’s passing. We will always remember the tremendous love and support he gave us during Christian’s death. I think Christian’s funeral service was the most beautiful service I  ever experienced. I can still hear his voice and see him holding the little ball Christian threw to him. PK was also great in reminding me that  God was big enough to handle our questions and the importance of voicing our doubts to God from a perspective of faith. His help was so important to both of us to process Christian’s death. I am sure you were a big support to him as he ministered to us.  May God be so close to you during this time of your great loss. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. I just had a thought of Christian running up to see PK in heaven! God bless and keep you. Sending love and prayers, Debbie and Bob Detwiler

Marty, it’s been a while since we have seen you folks at Cedar Heights BIC, but Omer made a fantastic impression on everyone he met. He loved the Lord and was never afraid to say it. May he walk those streets of gold and be a shining light! Prayers for comfort until you meet again.

Marty and family although this is very sad, know that Omer leaves behind a lot of happy memories that will be reflected on forevermore.  He was a peaceful gentleman that offered that peace to all that knew him.
