Obituaries

Mark R. “Koppo” Kopp, 62

January 07, 2018

If you are reading this, I’m dead because colon cancer kicked my butt.
I am survived by my beautiful trophy wife, Rebecca (nee Conlin). Thank you for the best 12 years of my life. My son Alex. With him I am well pleased. His lovely wife Laura and their little dog Millie.
Also surviving are my sister, Marilyn, brother-in-law, Howard, sisters-in-law Kim and Katy, and cousins Mike, Marlene, and Carol. I am predeceased by my sister Karen and my parents J. Robert Kopp and Dorothy E. “Dottie” Kopp.
I am also survived by a boat load of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews – too numerous to mention here. (Like I could remember all their names anyway.) Anonymity also gives them plausible deniability that they were ever related to me.
Manheim Township High School 1973. Franklin & Marshall College 1977. Graduate work St. John’s University. 35 years in the import/export business in New Jersey. Baseball fan. Yada, yada, yada.
Thanks to my buddies Ralph and Shabby. I appreciated you guys keeping up the comedy.
Since moving back to Lancaster 4 years ago, I have been a member in various degrees of good standing at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Mt. Joy. My thanks to the Friendship Sunday School class and the Men’s Ministry. Your love, support, and prayers have sustained me.
Special thank you to Pastor Sean Rajnic. You’ve been my rock. I love you, man.
A service will be held for me on Saturday, January 27th at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home at 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Visit with the family at 10AM with a service to follow at 11AM. Then, this summer I invite you to a great big picnic party to celebrate and keep the comedy going.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to my good friends at Hospice and Community Care at 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

Condolences to the Family

January 30, 2018

Dear Kopp Family,
My name is Ron Meikrantz and Mark worked for me at Kinney’s Shoes at the Lancaster Shopping Center back when he was sixteen or seventeen. I myself was only 21 or 22 at the time. Working with Mark for the time that we did was a real pleasant experience. His work habits were terrific but above and beyond that, his sense of humor, and manners were very evident at that early age.
I was so saddened to see of his passing and could tell by his remarks in his obiturary what great love he had for his family.
With deepest sympathy for your family’s loss.
Sincerely,
Ron Meikrantz

I know I will have ample opportunity to share with the family in person. But, I just need to say what you will hear over and over again – I have been so blessed to be a friend of Mark. What a wonderful soul. He had a deep impact on my relationship with my children by sharing the story of how he prioritized his relationship with Alex (Alex, I really look forward to meeting you). What a gift to my family that was. But, the best part of our friendship was getting to watch and hear about his most genuine faith in God. What I experienced from my first-row seat for that action will always be with me. Becky, know that you always have a friend and confidante in me and those at St. Mark’s. God bless, -Pastor Sean

Dear Becky and Family,
We are so very sorry for your loss.   We know how special these last 12 plus years have been for you, especially returning to Lancaster with Mark.  Our thoughts are with you.

Mark was a big part of my life from Brecht School through Sr. year @ MT’73. He won the first “Pinball Wizard” Championship at LeMin’s, in Grandview Heights~ where we hung out after school in the early 70’s.
I recall his quick wit, biting humor, and his skill at cards, pool & pinball. We had a lot of fun as young lads.
I appreciate his “Yogi” reference and consider him one of the stars of our Senior Class. He is missed and fondly remembered. Glad I got to see him again a handful of times over the decades.

Mark, I am so sorry to hear of your news. I live out of town but my sister Pam sent me your obituary. She recognized that you were one of my classmates at Manheim Township. She did not realize that you and I go back as far as grade school! I never read an obituary written like that before, but I liked it. I could hear your voice throughout. You were always fun to talk with. I never realized that you made comedy a conscious effort. It came so naturally from you. I wish I would have been a better friend. Lord knows I always enjoyed your company. I remember you introducing me once to your wife, and I know you were very proud of her – just as I am of my mine. God bless you Mark, and I look forward to seeing you again someday on the other side.  Sincerely, Bob Sherrard

OMG, Becky! I reread the obituary, and sadly this turned out to be your husband, and now I am truly bereft. How loved you have been. Deservedly so. I wish I had known Mark. Katy and Sam spoke so highly of him. I am heartbroken for you and your family. God bless you and be a comfort for you.

I never met Mark, but I was so moved by his obituary that I wanted to express my condolences. I am sorry I never met him because he seems like a stellar human being! What an attitude and sense of humor! In addition, his spiritual grounding made his death all the more profound. I am so sorry for your loss.
