Condolences to the Family

May 08, 2015

It’s been 8 years since my father passed and I just found these messages on this page. As the tears roll down my cheek, I am touched to read all these heartfelt memories. Our lives aren’t the same without him here, but I do believe he is watching his grandchildren grow and I know that he is smiling. Thank you for taking the time to leave these messages. They are a blessing and comfort to read.

Denny became my surrogate father after my Dad’s passing in June. He was a true friend. Our whole family will miss him dearly. There were no better cheese steaks made anywhere! Take care my friend, we will miss you.

Mom, Frank, Joyce, Craig & Alison P.

I want to extend my condolence to you on your loss. I lost my husband in January. I was a teenager in Mount Joy when Den opened his shop. I also worked for Dr. Ron Weaver as a nurse. Den was a friend and there were no other cheesesteaks to rival his. He will be missed. I have lived away from Mount Joy for a long time but always when I got the chance would stop by for a cheesesteak and conversation. My husband and daughters also learned to love Den’s steak sandwiches. Den always remembered what I ordered when I’d walk in the door. He was a wonderful person and spoke very highly of his family. We didn’t see each other often, but when we did it was like I hadn’t been away. I will miss him and his smile and views on everything and of course, his cheesesteaks. May you have comfort that Den was so well thought of. I am glad to say that I knew Den.

I was sad to read of the passing of Den…i have been stopping by his shop for many years and always enjoyed talking with him or watching whatever show he would have on t.v….(of course i would order something and he would always made get the cheese steak…but that is what you loved about Den) i remember driving by his shop and it seem like he never was closed, you would see him standing by the window or sitting at a table..(i have missing that in recent months) but i was lucky to see him a few weeks ago outside his shop and was able to say a few words to him..mt joy will not be the same without him and his funny sense of humor, god bless stay strong

Dear Alice and family,

Please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of Dennis. We used to live near you when you lived on N.Prince St, we lived on James and our backyards me. I remember well, little Phillip playing in the yard and how proud Dennis was of him. We now live outside Mount Joy and I occasionally would stop into the shop to buy pizza or sandwiches and reminisce with Dennis about the old times when he first came to Lancaster and opened the D&K Pizza shop at W.King and Dorwart Sts. I was a young policeman back then. May God be your comfort and give you peace.

Luther and Gerry Henry.

When I heard of Den’s passing on, I was overcome with memories of knowing him. I have known Den since the early 1970’s. I grew up in Mount Joy and frequently visited him and ordered his famous cheesesteaks and other foods at Den’s Pizza House. During my elementary, Junior High and High School years whenever I walked into Den’s Pizza, he was there and knew who I was and what I wanted right away…most of the time he asked me if I wanted my cheesesteak like always….before I even ordered! After graduating high school I still visited Den at his pizza shop. I moved to Georgia in 2000, and returned to PA again in 2005. I walked in to Den’s Pizza, and he looked at me and said, "Why you stay away for so long? You want cheesesteak like always?"

He always amazed me with all his hard work, talk of his family and love of life. He will forever be in my heart and memory.

My forever best wishes go out to his family and friends at this difficult time. Always remember all the good times you had with Den. Stay strong. That is what he would want for you.
