Mary Ann (Hershey) Kuhn, 89

October 27, 2019

Mary Ann (Hershey) Kuhn, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, October 27, 2019. She was born August 31,1930 to Verna Mae Clotfelter Hershey and Harvey Moyer Hershey and lived most of her life in her beloved Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Mary met the love of her life while waitressing at the Hershey Community Center. A young teacher named Paul would stack the dishes high, write her cute notes, then love poems. After a period of courting (with encouragement to Paul from his future mother-in-law), they married in August 1950 and remained happily married for 63 years. Many have enjoyed some of the nicknames lovingly given to her by her husband Paul: The Queen, Quelle Femme, What-A-Woman, Marianeski O’Kuhne, The Jolly Jug-Jumper, Quick-Draw McGraw, and was most appropriately described as The Director.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband Paul J. Kuhn, her parents Harvey and Verna Hershey, her brothers Marlin, Daniel, John, Robert, and William Hershey and sister Jo Ann Williams. She is survived by her sister Vera Moore as well as children Lizz and husband Bruce Andrews, Paula and husband Dan Moditch, Dwight and wife Phyllis Kuhn, Julie and husband Michael Avant, Verna Kuhn, Juliann Kuhn and husband Jeremy Shew. Grandchildren include Brandon and wife Jen Andrews, Brian and wife Amanda Andrews , Ben and wife Tara Andrews, Blake and wife Kim Andrews, Danny and wife Sabrina Moditch, Desiree Moditch and fiancé Steve Kirit, Shannon and husband Gary Cossaboom, Jonathan and wife Sonya Kuhn, Christina and husband Luis Delgado, Emily and husband Joe Ackland, Miles Matthews, and Ethan and Jacob Shew. She was happy to love on her great-grandchildren Cooper Andrews and Joie Brant; Hudson and Dawson Andrews; Ace, Cash, and Lyla Andrews; Evie, Mia, and Caleb Andrews; Logan, Liam, Lucas, and Lincoln Moditch; Samuel Mintz and Boden Asper; Isabella and Keegan Kuhn; Malachi, Olivia and Franci Delgado.

Mary opened her home for many and always made room for more. She loved the Lord and tried to live her faith day by day. Mary talked the talk and walked the walk with her tireless volunteering for the church, the Hershey Lions Club Women’s Auxiliary, or in the direction of a need or request, all while juggling a house full of children and work at the Reese’s factory. Mary was a spirited, fun-loving, adventure seeking, rebel-rousing, best and most accurate advice-giving character you would want to meet. She was a strong and true friend, a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, an avid gardener, prolific painter, tap dancer supreme, family music singer and lover of all children, and that means ALL children, and never met a word she could not mispronounce. She loved to laugh, play cards and games and just enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Mary was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, sister, and friend whose light will be sorely missed but will live on in those who knew and loved her.
