Joyce Arthur Kurtz, 83

October 05, 2018

Joyce Arthur Kurtz, 83, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018, at the Masonic Health Care Center, after a long illness. Born in Altavista, VA, she was the daughter of the late J. Samuel and Rubye (Roark) Arthur. After moving to PA as a child, she graduated from the New Holland High School in 1952.

Joyce worked for 25 years in the hospitality industry, which gave her the opportunity to live in a number of cities, including Clearwater, FL, Las Vegas, NV, and Honolulu, HI. She retired as resident manager of a high-rise apartment building in Honolulu in 2005, before returning to Altavista. A member of the Rustburg Chapter No. 23, Order of the Eastern Star in VA, Joyce moved to the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown in 2015, where she enjoyed volunteering and playing cards and dominos with her friends.

Joyce is survived by three sons, Larry Kurtz of Somerville, MA, Ronald Kurtz of Lancaster, and Terry Kurtz and his spouse Terry Bigler of Ephrata. Also surviving is a brother, John “Jack” Arthur of Christiansburg, VA, four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Kurtz, her daughter, Sandra Musser, and an infant sister, Mary Elizabeth.

A Remembrance Service will be held at Masonic Village at a later date. Joyce’s final resting place will be in the Arthur Family Cemetery, Evington, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joyce’s memory may be offered to Masonic Villages of PA, C/O Office of Gift Planning, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, designated for the Masonic Village Hospice Program.

We are so sorry to hear of Joyce’s passing. She was beloved by Faith UMC and was active in so many of our activities and events before she moved. Joyce was always great to speak to, with so many life stories and a wonderful sense of humor. We will keep the family and friends in prayer in this time of grief. We are thankful that Joyce is with the Lord in his eternal care!
