Daryl B. “Skip” Lichty, 87

Daryl B. “Skip” Lichty, Paradise, died peacefully surrounded by his family on November 13, 2023. He was a 1955 graduate of Pequea Valley High School. He served six years in the U. S. Army and U. S. Army Active Reserves. Skip was a graduate of West Chester University and an educator for 34 years. For the last 30 years of his career, he taught health and physical education in the Pequea Valley School District, coaching boys & girls’ soccer and wrestling. He retired in 1997 but continued substitute teaching at Pequea Valley until 2019.

Lichty was active in the food industry throughout his life. He was a co-owner of the Paradise Village Inn in the 70’s and owned and operated a small catering business in the 90’s. For over 20 years, he worked at the Holiday Inn Pool Bar in Ocean City MD during the summer.

Skip was a long-time member and past president of the Paradise Twp. Lions Club; he held many club and district offices. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services from the Lions Clubs International Foundation. He also received the Fellow Award for Meritorious Support to the Lions of Pennsylvania. He was active in volunteer work for the Pequea Valley Public Library in Intercourse. He was also a Mason, belonging to the Christiana Lodge and Valley of Lancaster.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Helen Brown and Donald Lichty. Surviving is his wife, Doris. They would have been married (63) years in February. He also survived by three children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren:
Gregory M. Lichty, husband of Kimi Iverson Lichty and father of Aaron and Jessica (wife of Logan Webster, and mother of Delaney Ann and Brooks Lee), of Willards, MD; Matthew S. Lichty, husband of Michele Freeman Lichty and father of Ian, (husband of Katherine Boas, father of Louise Mary), Lea (wife of John Armstrong) and Sara, of Paradise, and Jennifer L. Kresak, wife of the late Mark Kresak and mother of Jonas and Tristin, of Johnstown, PA. He is also survived by a sister, Beverly Ann Holler Girvin, of New Holland.

Per Skip’s request, there will be no service at this time. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send a contribution to the Paradise Lions Club.

My love and sympathy to all of you. I worked with Skip for most of my 35 years at PV, PVI, and saw him when we both subbed after retirement. I never realized how much of a public servant he was! He was had so many interests, and always thought of others. Prayers for you all.
