Donna M. Long

September 04, 2023

Donna M. Long passed away on September 4th at Hospice and Community in Mt Joy. She fought a hard four-month battle with cancer and never complained.

She was the wife of Donald Long of Manheim. She was born in Lancaster in 1951 the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Weitzel. She was preceded in death by her brother Larry. Donna graduated from Manheim Township in 1969. She spent her adult life working for various insurance companies, retiring from Westfield Co. as a farm underwriter.

Donna’s passion was her grandkids and playing golf. She spent many hours watching her grandkids playing baseball, soccer, softball, and basketball. She played in several golf leagues and most enjoyed playing with her (Driving Divas). Donna and Don spent many winters staying in Myrtle Beach and played every course there. She was a big fan of the New York Yankees and Notre Dame football. She also enjoyed dancing and singing karaoke with her friends. Their rendition of (Stop in the name of love) was priceless.

Donna is survived by her husband, 3 children, Lisa Grube (Chris) of Manheim, Ronald (Kelly) of New Providence and Barry of York. She had five grandchildren, Quinten (4 great grandchildren), Izzy, Piper, Aiden, and Peyton.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of family.

Dear Don, Lisa and friends and family.  I am so so sorry to hear of Donna’s passing.  I met Donna at Manheim Township H.S. in the fall of 1966.  I was 15 and Donna would be 15 in November.  I had just moved back to Lancaster from Sarasota, California.  Our gym teacher, Mrs. Davis, made Donna take me to lunch on my 2nd day.  I was a bit odd because California was VERY different from Lancaster.  So, Donna was embarrassed to be seen with me and she kept saying , “you’re so tall.”  Pretty soon, though, we became such GOOD friends.  I consider Donna one of my very best friends in my life.  Donna and I have kept in touch for over 50 years.  We didn’t talk a whole lot but she NEVER forgot to send me a Christmas card.  I will miss that card very much.  Donna, I love you so much and I will miss your presence, as well.   Love Nancy Davis Trent ❤

Don and family — so sorry and saddened to see this in the paper this AM. I had no idea that you guys were going through this and it seemed likely on a few months ago I ran into Donna at Stauffers.  I will miss her smiling face whenever I would run into you guys.   Prayers for comfort for all of you during this time.

Our sincere condolences on your family’s loss.  Donna was so fun to be around.  Her unwavering support of her grandchildren is to be admired.  Specifically, when she supported Izzy in softball and basketball, she also was a huge support to Paige and the entire team.  She left an impact on everyone who was fortunate to have known her.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.  May the memories carry you through this difficult time.
